JOHN DEMENT HUDSON - BOY'S STATE

WE WOULD LIKE TO CONGRATULATE MR. HUDSON  ON HIS SELECTION AND PARTICIPATION IN THE BOY'S STATE PROGRAM.  TEAM NASHVILLE IS VERY PROUD TO HAVE SUCH A FINE YOUNG MAN IN OUR PROGRAM.

ABOUT BOY'S STATE:

American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for U.S. high-school students. A participatory program in which students become part of the operation of local, county and state government, Boys State was founded in 1935 to counter the socialism-inspired Young Pioneer Camps. The program was the ideaof two Illinois Legionnaires, Hayes Kennedy and Harold Card, who organized the first Boys State at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield.
American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a separate but similar program for young women called Girls State.
At Boys State, participants learn the rights, privileges and responsibilities of franchised citizens. The training is objective and centers on the structure of city, county and state governments. Operated by students elected to various offices, Boys State activities include legislative sessions, court proceedings, law-enforcement presentations, assemblies, bands, choruses and recreational programs.
Legion posts select high-school juniors to attend the program. In most cases, individual expenses are paid by a sponsoring post, a local business or another community-based organization.
Boys State programs currently exist in all Legion departments except Hawaii. As separate corporations, Boys State programs vary in content and method of procedure, but each adheres to the same basic concept: teaching government from the township to the state level.

CLOSING WORDS ON WALLACE PRATHER...

by BROOKS HANSEN (MEMPHIS ROAR)

Cornelius “Corn” Elder (Nashville, TN | The Ensworth School)
2013 | 5’11″ | 170lbs | Team Nashville Elite

Team Nashville Elite went 3-0 in pool play on the back of their scoring machine point guard Corn Elder.Cornelius “Corn” Elder (Team Nashville) finished the first Saturday game against the Columbus Knicks with 26 points. He followed that up with a 27-point performance against the Dwight Howard Warriors.

Elder is a super quick point guard with great court awareness, quick hands, suffocating defense, heads up passing ability, and a compete “til the end” mentality. He is also a stud football player for The Ensworth School. Team Nashville fell to the Atlanta Celtics in bracket play, but Elder put on quite a performance before their exit averaging a tournament-high 25 points per contest.

IF YOU ARE WONDERING WHY WE DON'T PLAY IN COLLEGE GYMS ANYMORE...

By Tim Stevens
Charlotte News Observer
RALEIGH A recent NCAA rule change has forced one of the most prominent club basketball tournaments in the country off the campuses of N.C. State, Duke and North Carolina, leaving its organizer scrambling to find venues.
Basketball recruiting analyst Bob Gibbons' 20th Tournament of Champions, which traditionally attracts 128 of the top boys' club basketball teams from across the country, is scheduled to tip off Memorial Day weekend. This month, however, the NCAA's Legislative Council adopted a proposal prohibiting Division I programs from hosting competitions in which men's prospective athletes participate.
Last year, Gibbons' three-day tournament used 18 area courts, including 12 on the Duke, N.C. State and North Carolina campuses.
"I don't know what we are going to do," Gibbons said. "I've got teams that have already purchased their airplane tickets to come. This really yanks the rug from under us."
Gibbons had rented five courts at North Carolina, including three at the Smith Center; three at N.C. State, including Reynolds Coliseum, and four courts at Duke, including Cameron Indoor Stadium.
The NCAA rule does not affect girls' club team tournaments, such as last weekend's Deep South Classic, which used N.C. State, Duke and North Carolina facilities.

SO, DON'T EXPECT TO BE PLAYING AT THE GEORGIA TECH REC CENTER THIS WEEKEND.
